Following the buzz around the Huawei Mate 60 series, the tech giant unveiled its latest creation, the Huawei Mate X5 foldable phone. The new addition seamlessly integrates superior craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, promising users an unparalleled smartphone experience.
For those curious about the terminology, especially considering the release of Mate X3 earlier this year, Huawei decided to skip “Mate X4.” The number 4, often associated with bad luck in China, has been avoided by several brands, and Huawei is no exception.
The Mate X5 resembles its predecessor, the Mate X3, with nuanced differences in the camera island design. Both ‘eco leather’ and ‘Feather Sand’ backplates offer users luxury and personalization. The XMAGE triple camera setup is centred at the back, enhancing the phone’s photographic capabilities.
Two Dynamic 120Hz Displays Steal the Show.
The Mate X5 showcases a 7.85-inch primary display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and an exquisite 2496 x 2224 resolution. Complementing it is a 6.4-inch external display equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 2504 x 1080 pixels resolution.
Powered by the Kirin 9000s SoC, the Mate X5 ensures efficient performance. The phone’s configurations include a 12GB RAM model with 512GB of storage and a 16GB RAM variant available in both 512GB and 1TB storage options, which is expandable.
Camera enthusiasts will appreciate the 50-megapixel main camera, accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultrawide and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. Each display also houses an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
Elevating the user experience, the phone boasts a 5,060mAh battery, supporting both 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Notably, the Mate X5 carries an IPX8 water resistance rating and is 5G-ready, thanks to Huawei’s chipset integration.
The phone’s dimensions, when folded, are 156.9 x 72.4 x 11.08mm and when unfolded, 156.9 x 141.5 x 5.3mm. With weight variations in its models, the vegan leather variant is 243 grams, while the ‘Feather Sand’ model is slightly heavier at 245 grams.
The Mate X5 will be available in vibrant colours, including Feather Black, Feather Gold, Feather White, Green Mountain Dai, and Phantom Purple. It operates on HarmonyOS 4.
