Indian telecom provider Reliance Jio is in talks with Tesla, and Reliance Jio wants to build a dedicated 5G network for the latter’s manufacturing plant in India, according to the Indian Express.
Reliance Jio, the telecom operator led by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, is in talks with Tesla to build a dedicated network. The report notes that further progress will be made only if Tesla finalizes its plans to set up a manufacturing plant in the country. The report cites sources familiar with the matter as saying that the 5G network will be exclusive to Tesla and will not be open to the outside world. Negotiations are still in the very early stages.
The report also said that in addition to Tesla, Reliance Jio is also reaching out to other automakers and hospitals, among others, that could use 5G to discuss building a dedicated 5G network service. Industry insiders say that a dedicated 5G network would help these organizations achieve high-speed communications and increase the amount of data carried on enterprise networks.
